Show: Last Birds
A performance by the maestros Mariana Montes, Jonatan Aguero, Yanina Quiñones, and Neri Piliu.
Tangoart Company
Thursday, May 14 – 6:00 pm – Espace José Janson, Fabrègues
“Last Birds” immerses audiences in a dreamlike world that blurs the boundaries between dream and reality. With a bold contemporary Argentine tango language, this creation for five dancers breaks away from the sensual myth of the tango couple: it is no longer about a connection between two dancers, but rather between a multiplicity of bodies, where women can lead and men agree to be led.
Placing Argentine tango within the contemporary world, both choreographically and culturally, is the goal of the Tangoart Company. The choreographic language of Ariane Liautaud draws equally from tradition and modernity. Through her creations, she explores various forms of dialogue possible within the tanguero body and extends the richness of tango’s mode of connection to other disciplines.
After being presented at the Avignon Festival, the show continues its tour throughout France.
All audiences – Duration: 60 min
Choreographer: Ariane Liautaud
Dancers: Damien Orsal, Eneas Vaca Bualo, Karim El Toukhi, Ariane Liautaud, with Clara Leymonie and Florencia Segura alternating
Co-production: Théâtre Golovine and Théâtre El Duende
With the support of the Emerging Artists and Creation Fund of the Avignon Off Festival, the City of Clichy, the CND of Pantin, Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar, Espace Beaujon, Centre Paris Anim Mado Robin, La Maison de la Conversation, Studio Adidas, Théâtre Henry Miller, SACD, and Les Tremplins du Théâtre des Calanques.
The performance will be followed by a show by the maestros invited to the festival Mariana Montes, Jonatan Aguero, Yanina Quiñones, and Neri Piliu
Film “La Rencontre”
Documentary film by Corinne Espagno
Monday, May 11 – 8:30 pm – Cinéma Utopia Sainte Bernadette
5 avenue du Docteur Pezet
34090 Montpellier
tel : +33 (0)4 67 52 32 00
Saturday, May 16 – 5:30 pm – Espace Culturel José Janson, Fabrègues
She dances, sculpts, travels, and tours tango festivals. Affected by severe visual impairment, Nathalie shows a filmmaker how her body is more efficient than eyes when it comes to seeing. The visually impaired woman guides the sighted one and teaches us to look differently. Corinne films her, attempting to capture what cannot be seen: the sensations of her body. But what Nathalie wants us to see is not as Argentine as it may seem. Until now, she has always managed to ensure that no one could see that she could not see. This is the story of a transition in the life of a woman who has decided to show herself “as she is.”
The film has already been screened in many cinemas across France and received the “Best Music Documentary Film / ArteNonStop” award at the 2025 Buenos Aires Festival.

Place Max Rouquette - Montpellier
Pedro Marques of the En Corps association has been teaching and practicing Tai Chi and Argentine tango for many years: tango and martial arts, two complementary activities. This dual approach gives him mastery of grounding, balance, and body movement—essential assets for a gentle dance practice. Together with Séverine Durand, he teaches tango in Montpellier.

Conference “And women created tango”
By Solange Bazely
Friday, May 15 – 6:30 pm – Espace José Janson, Fabrègues
With this deliberately provocative title—given how tango is often associated with a virile, masculine image—this conference offers an opportunity to restore women’s contributions to tango from its very beginnings. Solange dismantles long-standing clichés.
Dancers, composers, musicians, lyricists, and singers will no longer be the forgotten women of tango history.
Prépa’Tang Workshop
Friday, May 15 – 11:30 am–1:00 pm & 2:00–3:30 pm
Céline Du Pasquier, a state-certified physiotherapist and tango dancer, has designed dance preparation workshops to help participants better enjoy milongas and classes taught by maestros.
She focuses on specific themes such as the foot, hip, axis, and dissociation. These are true practical classes in stretching and anatomy applied to movement, adapted to tango practice. Participants leave with exercises to continue at home. Workshops may be taken separately.
After-party
Sunday, May 17 – from 2:00 am – Salle de l’Atelier, Fabrègues
The after-party will focus on open role dancing. What does this mean? Open role allows each dancer the freedom to choose whether to dance the “leader” or “follower” role regardless of gender, while respecting everyone’s preferences and rights. The Montpellier-based association TangO Libre promotes Argentine tango through an open and inclusive practice and also participates in broader tango gatherings through partnerships.
Exhibition – Diego Menendez
From Thursday, May 14 – Espace José Janson, Fabrègues
Born in Buenos Aires in the 1950s, Diego Menendez studied Fine Arts under the harsh dictatorship of the time, with that regime as his only horizon. He went into exile in France in the 1980s.
His pictorial art, influenced by expressionism, is an invitation to dream, with a style reminiscent of Modigliani. Poetry and color abound in the works of this artist, each canvas inviting reverie. His style reveals a gentle sensuality caressed by subtle, warm colors.
This is the painting of Diego Menendez: pure pleasure for the eyes, a journey for the imagination, and happiness for the soul. Simply beautiful.
Exhibition – Liliana Rago
From Thursday, May 14 – Espace José Janson, Fabrègues
Liliana Rago is an Argentine-born painter, trained in Fine Arts and journalism in Buenos Aires, her native city. In 1981, she chose Paris to pursue her artistic career. Since then, she has traveled the world combining dance and painting. Her work is held in public and private collections in Buenos Aires, New York, London, Paris, Bonifacio, Jakarta, Singapore—and Montpellier.
Her paintings charm us with the softness of sunlit balconies and the beauty of dancers, while her drawings captivate and transport us to the very heart of dance, powerfully and delicately expressing inspiration rooted in her Latin origins.
Book Signing – Christina Clech
Saturday, May 16 – 7:00 pm – Espace José Janson, Fabrègues
On the occasion of the TangOsud Festival, Christina Clech will host a book signing for her first novel, “Synchrony No. 6, or The Rivers of Chance.”
On a train taking her to Paris on the first day of spring, Malena, an Argentine tango dancer, leafs through a few pages of a newspaper left on the seat beside her. She is astonished to discover an article accompanied by a magnificent photograph by Lucien Hervé, which strangely echoes the purpose of her journey and reveals the precise location of her appointment the following day. An article like an invitation card, an event emerging from the improbable—once again, after many times before…
Christina Clech holds a PhD in Work Psychology and is an Argentine tango dancer
